Created by French-Colombian designer Sylvia Toth in 2008, the WARMI brand blends tradition with modernity by interpreting Latin American folk craftsmanship with a European flair. WARMI accessories and clothing offer a perfect balance between femininity and boldness, to inspire and delight the woman who wears them. The fully handcrafted production of this collection is undertaken by a leather workshop in Bogotá, Columbia that has been safeguarding this leather-smith tradition for generations. From the perfect design and cut of each colourful layer of leather, to the creation of gussets and application of leather varnish for a dash of polish, each item requires detailed and painstaking craftsmanship that can take several days. Each handmade item is numbered and signed by the artisan that made it. Traditional techniques come alive, with close attention paid to detail in this meticulous work. WARMI means woman in Quechua, one of the last indigenous languages that still exists in the Andean region. WARMI is not only a tribute to women – as artisans, a life force and the ultimate creators – but also to the tradition of a craft and ancestral “savoir faire” from a culture that is fading away.
